How many amps does a 2000 sq ft house need?

A 2000 square foot house calculates out around 70 to 130 amps, and the spread is entirely about fuel. Gas heat, gas water, gas range: the low end. Electric everything with a heat pump and dryer: the high end.

Square footage itself contributes little; at the NEC's 3 VA per square foot, 2,000 feet is only 6,000 VA, or 25 amps of the total. Appliances are the real load.
