Privacy Policy

1. Who we are and how to reach us
WireGaugeCalc (wiregaugecalc.com) is operated by Yassine Rajallah, a sole proprietor under German law (“WireGaugeCalc,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data when you use our calculators and website (the “Service”), as required by Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable German data protection law.
Controller: Yassine Rajallah, Berlin, Germany. Email: contact@wiregaugecalc.com.
Data protection officer: we are not legally required to appoint one. For all privacy matters, contact us at the email address above.
Our core privacy promise: the calculators run entirely in your browser. The values you type into a calculator, and the results, are processed on your own device and are never transmitted to, seen by, or stored on our servers.
2. How the calculators work
- You enter plain values (such as current, distance, voltage, or conductor size) into a calculator on the page.
- The calculation runs locally, in your browser, using code that was delivered with the page.
- We do not receive a copy of your inputs or your results, and we cannot retrieve them.
3. Information we process, why, and on what legal basis
We process personal data only where a lawful basis exists under Article 6 GDPR.
What we process but never store
- Calculator inputs and results: processed only in your browser and never sent to us.
What we process or may store
- Server logs and delivery of the website: when you load a page, the server of our hosting and content delivery provider (see Section 7) receives technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser’s user agent, and uses it to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating, securing, and troubleshooting the Service.
- Fonts: our pages load the font “Inter” from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Your browser therefore sends your IP address and browser details to Google when a page loads. Legal basis: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in showing the site in its intended design.
- Analytics with our own tool, selfast: pseudonymous visit statistics. See Section 4 for exactly what is collected. Legal basis: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in understanding which pages help visitors most so we can improve the Service; you can object at any time by declining analytics (Section 4).
- Your cookie choice: the first-party cookie
cookie_consent(Section 4). Legal basis: legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in respecting and remembering your choice. - Support communications: your email address and message if you contact us. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where your request relates to a contract, otherwise legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in answering you.
The Service is currently free and does not require an account or payment, so we do not collect account or billing data at present. If we offer accounts or paid features in the future, we will update this policy before we collect that data.
4. Cookies and analytics
Our own analytics: selfast
We measure visits with selfast, an analytics tool that we run ourselves on our own server at
dataf.blazehive.io (Amazon Web Services, Ireland), delivered through Cloudflare. It is not a third-party
analytics service, we do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service, and we do not sell
the data or share it with anyone.
When analytics are active, selfast collects:
- the address of the page you view and the referrer (the page that sent you);
- your browser, operating system, and device type;
- your language and time zone, and your screen size;
- your approximate location (country, region, and city), derived from your IP address; and
- a random visitor ID and a random session ID.
The cookies it sets
selfast sets four first-party cookies on your device:
datafast_visitor_id: your random visitor ID. Lifetime: 1 year.datafast_visitor_first_seen_at: when your browser first visited. Lifetime: 1 year.datafast_visitor_session_count: how many sessions your browser has had. Lifetime: 1 year.datafast_session_id: your random session ID. Lifetime: 30 minutes after your last page view.
While you browse, selfast also keeps a short-lived entry in your browser’s session storage
(datafast_pageview_state) with the time and address of the previous page view in that tab, so that it can
measure the visit; it disappears when you close the tab.
IP addresses and retention
The statistics database stores no IP address. The server’s access log, however, keeps IP addresses for up to 14 days, for security and troubleshooting, and then they are deleted. The statistics themselves are pseudonymous (random IDs, no name and no email address) and are kept only as long as they are useful for our own statistics.
Our cookie banner and your choice
On your first visit, a banner at the bottom-left of the page tells you about this. Analytics run unless you decline them: to decline, choose Customize, switch Analytics & performance off, and Save preferences. “Accept” and the close button (×) keep analytics on. Closing the Customize window without saving leaves the banner in place and changes nothing.
Your choice is stored in the first-party cookie cookie_consent (value granted or
denied) for 180 days. It is shared between wiregaugecalc.com and www.wiregaugecalc.com.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with Cookie settings in the footer
of every page. If you decline, the analytics cookies above are deleted, the tracker is stopped and is not loaded on
later visits, and your browser stores two small markers in its local storage (datafast_ignore and
ck_df_ignored) that remember the decision for the tracker. Withdrawing consent does not affect
processing that took place before the withdrawal.
The other categories shown in the preferences window (functional, targeting and advertising, and social media) are listed for transparency. We do not currently set cookies for those purposes, so switching them has no effect. We do not use advertising cookies and do not share cookie data with advertisers. You can also control cookies in your browser settings.
5. Your privacy rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access your personal data and obtain a copy (Art. 15);
- have inaccurate data rectified (Art. 16);
- have your data erased where it is no longer necessary, you withdraw consent, or processing is unlawful (Art. 17);
- restrict processing (Art. 18);
- receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format (Art. 20);
- object at any time to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21); and
- withdraw a consent you have given, at any time (Art. 7(3)).
To exercise any right, email contact@wiregaugecalc.com with the subject
“Data Subject Request” and describe your request. We will respond within one (1) month of receipt; for complex or
numerous requests we may extend this by a further two months and will tell you within the first month. We do not charge
a fee unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive, and we may ask for proof of identity. Because the
statistics use random IDs, we can find your analytics data only if you tell us your visitor ID (the value of the
datafast_visitor_id cookie).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR); see Section 12. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.
6. Data retention
- Calculator inputs and results: never stored by us (processed in your browser only).
- Server access log (IP addresses): up to 14 days.
- Analytics statistics: no IP address is stored; pseudonymous data is kept no longer than necessary for our statistics.
- Cookies: as listed in Section 4 (consent cookie 180 days; analytics cookies 1 year, session cookie 30 minutes after the last page view).
- Support emails: up to 2 years.
- Hosting and CDN logs: according to the provider’s own retention periods.
After retention periods expire, data is securely deleted or irreversibly anonymised, unless a law requires us to keep it.
7. Service providers and recipients
We rely on a small number of providers, and we do not sell personal data:
- Hosting and content delivery (Cloudflare): serves the website and static assets, and also delivers our analytics endpoint.
- Analytics server (Amazon Web Services, Ireland): hosts our own selfast installation, which we operate ourselves.
- Google Fonts (Google): delivers the Inter font to your browser (Section 3).
- Email provider: delivers the messages you send to contact@wiregaugecalc.com.
Where a provider processes personal data on our behalf, it does so on our documented instructions and under the contract required by Article 28 GDPR.
8. International transfers
Our analytics data is stored in Ireland (EU). Cloudflare and Google operate global networks, so your technical data (such as your IP address) may be processed on servers outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States, when those providers deliver the site or fonts to you. Where that happens, the transfer relies on appropriate safeguards under Chapter V GDPR, such as an adequacy decision (for example the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework) or Standard Contractual Clauses. If we add any provider that processes data outside the EEA in the future, we will update this policy and ensure adequate protections are in place.
9. Automated decision-making
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects (Art. 22 GDPR), and we do not carry out profiling for advertising or scoring.
10. Children’s privacy
WireGaugeCalc is not intended for users under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please email contact@wiregaugecalc.com and we will delete it without undue delay.
11. Data security
- Encryption: TLS for data in transit.
- Minimal data: because calculator inputs never leave your browser, there is nothing for us to lose, and our analytics store no IP address.
- Incident response: where a personal data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the competent supervisory authority within 72 hours of becoming aware of it (Art. 33 GDPR) and, where the risk is high, you without undue delay (Art. 34 GDPR).
12. Supervisory authority
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. For our establishment, that is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit), Friedrichstr. 219, 10969 Berlin, Germany.
13. California privacy rights
California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information, and you will not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To exercise them, contact contact@wiregaugecalc.com.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect legal requirements, new features, or security improvements. The current version is always at wiregaugecalc.com/privacy-policy/ with its “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be announced on the website before they take effect.
