How much does an EV charger installation cost?

EV charger installation typically costs 500 to 2,500 dollars for a Level 2 charger in the US, on top of the unit itself. Short runs to a garage next to the panel land at the low end.

Three things push the price up: distance from the panel, whether a 240V circuit already exists, and whether your panel has capacity for a 40 to 60 amp breaker.

A full panel upgrade adds 1,800 to 4,000 dollars, which is why the quote sometimes triples on older homes. A load calculation tells you in advance whether you need one.

Permits and inspection are required almost everywhere. This is not a DIY-friendly circuit, so budget for a licensed electrician.
