Is the 2026 NEC code book available?

The 2026 NEC is available. NFPA issued the new edition in late 2025, and you can buy it in print, as a PDF, or read it by subscription in NFPA LiNK. The NFPA site's free read-only viewer carries it as well.

Availability and enforcement are different things. States adopt editions on their own schedule, and most jurisdictions in 2026 are still enforcing the 2023 or 2020 code. A few run older cycles.

New editions arrive every three years, so 2029 is the next one.

Before buying, check which edition your state and city have adopted. The inspector's edition is the one that matters on your job.
