Is there a federal tax credit for EV charger installation?

The federal tax credit for EV charger installation, the Section 30C credit, expired on June 30, 2026 under 2025's One Big Beautiful Bill Act. While it ran, it covered 30 percent of hardware and installation up to 1,000 dollars for homes in eligible census tracts.

If your charger was installed and operational by that date, you can still claim it with IRS Form 8911 on your return for that tax year. Installs after the deadline get nothing federal.

State and utility programs are the steadier deal in 2026: many utilities rebate 250 to 1,000 dollars for Level 2 chargers, sometimes more for load-managed units.

Keep itemized invoices separating hardware from installation either way; every program asks.

Whatever the rebate math, the circuit math comes first; run it in the EV charging calculator.
