How many current-carrying conductors trigger derating in a conduit?

Once you exceed three current-carrying conductors in a raceway, NEC 310.15(C)(1) applies an adjustment factor that lowers ampacity. The factor drops further as the count rises. Confirm the figures against the current NEC and your local authority having jurisdiction.

Does a neutral count toward the conductor limit?

A neutral that carries only unbalanced current is usually not counted, but a neutral on a circuit with major harmonic load is counted. The grounding conductor is never counted as current-carrying.

Can I fill a conduit to 40% and still need bigger wire?
